Mariners' Bryce Miller: Was available out of bullpen Wednesday
Miller was available to pitch out of the bullpen but did not appear in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Wednesday's starter, Bryan Woo, was making the start after missing his previous turn with shoulder soreness, so the Mariners wanted to have Miller available as protection on his bullpen day, if needed. However, according to Jude, while no one has approached Miller about a permanent move to the bullpen, it's something that's being considered. Seattle is currently operating with a six-man rotation following the promotion of Kade Anderson, but shifting Miller to relief and reverting to a five-man setup is possible. After posting a 2.18 ERA and 65:9 K:BB over 57.2 innings in the first half, Miller has logged a 7.18 ERA and 27:16 K:BB across 36.1 second-half frames. His next turn comes up Sunday in Toronto, but Seattle has yet to announce its probable pitchers for this weekend.

Mariners' Bryan Woo: Stumbles vs. Phillies
Woo (9-9) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing six runs on five hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out five.
Woo was limited to 76 pitches Wednesday after missing his last start due to shoulder soreness, though he may have gotten an early hook regardless -- the Phillies tagged Woo for six runs over the first two frames, highlighted by a pair of home runs. In his previous three starts, Woo had given up just two runs across 18 innings while posting a 0.67 WHIP. His ERA now sits at 4.36 on the season with a 1.10 WHIP and 142:30 K:BB over 25 starts (142.1 innings). Woo will look to bounce back his next time out, which is tentatively lined up for next week in Boston.

Mariners' Josh Naylor: Heading to bench against lefty
Naylor is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
Naylor will hit the bench for the first time since Aug. 11, with the left-handed-hitting first baseman getting the afternoon off while the Phillies send a southpaw (Jesus Luzardo) to the bump. Patrick Wisdom will step in at first base in place of Naylor, who has been sizzling at the plate lately with a .367/.400/.500 slash line, two home runs, three steals, seven RBI and six runs over his past 15 games.

Mariners' Andres Munoz: Collects 24th save Tuesday
Munoz walked two and struck out two over a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia.
Munoz made things interesting by issuing a pair of walks while protecting a three-run advantage, but he prevented Philadelphia from capitalizing and closed the game with a strikeout of Bryan De La Cruz. The right-hander converted his 24th save in 32 opportunities, though his 4.28 ERA remains unusually high compared to his previous work as Seattle's closer.

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Homers again Tuesday
Raleigh went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Phillies.
Raleigh got the Mariners on the board in the second inning, tying the game 1-1 with a 362-foot shot off Aaron Nola, his 18th homer of the season and fourth in his last two games. Raleigh looks to finally be heating up down the stretch in what's been a brutal campaign overall -- he's batting .348 (8-for-23) with six homers while striking out just five times in his last nine contests. Through 412 plate appearances this year, Raleigh is still slashing just .169/.286/.346 with 52 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Mariners' George Kirby: Rebounds vs. Phillies
Kirby (9-10) earned the win Tuesday over the Phillies, allowing one run on six hits and a walk across 7.2 innings. He struck out nine.
It was an excellent bounce-back outing from Kirby, who had given up 11 runs across eight innings in his previous two starts. The right-hander held Philadelphia to a lone second-inning run and needed just 92 pitches to work into the eighth inning. The 28-year-old Kirby lowered his ERA to 4.02 on the season with a 1.33 WHIP and 126:34 K:BB across 25 starts (147.2 innings) this season. He's currently lined up to face the Red Sox on the road his next time out.

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Returns from injured list
The Mariners activated Crawford (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Crawford has been shelved for all of August with left wrist inflammation, but he's been cleared to return after going 4-for-11 with one home run in three rehab games with Triple-A Tacoma. With Colt Emerson slated for season-ending wrist surgery Wednesday, Crawford is poised to serve as the Mariners' regular shortstop the rest of the way.

Mariners' Cole Young: Homers Monday
Young went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 9-2 win over the Phillies.
Young extended Seattle's lead to 8-2 in the fifth inning with his 16th homer of the year, a 356-foot shot off Zack Wheeler. It's an encouraging sign for Young, who had been struggling mightily at the plate coming into Monday's contest -- he'd gone just 1-for-25 while striking out at a 31 percent rate in his previous seven games. Overall, the 23-year-old Young is slashing .251/.310/.393 through 530 plate appearances this season with 62 runs scored, 57 RBI and three steals.

Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Records three RBI in win
Rodriguez went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored Monday in a 9-2 victory versus the Phillies.
Rodriguez helped Seattle get off to a fast start with a three-run blast off Zack Wheeler in the first inning. The long ball snapped a 10-game homerless stretch during which he batted just .159 (7-for-44) with only one RBI and a 1:17 BB:K. Rodriguez hasn't been able to put it all together yet this year -- his .725 OPS is on pace for a career-worst mark -- though his homer Monday gave him 20 long balls for the fifth straight season. He's added 16 steals, 60 runs and 56 RBI through 121 contests.

Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Gets lots of support in victory
Gilbert (11-7) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters over five innings in a win over Philadelphia on Monday.
Gilbert gave up two runs over his first two innings but settled in and didn't allow the Phillies to score thereafter. Meanwhile, Seattle's offense racked up eight runs through five frames to help Gilbert nab his third straight victory. The right-hander has given up three or fewer runs in each of his past seven starts, though he's pitched fewer than six innings four times during that span. Gilbert will carry a 3.36 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 162:39 K:BB through 155.1 frames into his next start, which is projected to be a road matchup against the red-hot Red Sox.

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Emerges with three-homer performance
Raleigh went 3-for-3 with three home runs, a walk and four total RBI in a 9-2 victory over Philadelphia on Monday.
It's been a miserable season for last year's runner-up in AL MVP voting, but for one game at least, he looked like the Big Dumper of old. Raleigh connected for a two-run homer in the first inning and added a solo shot in each of the fifth and seventh frames. It was the first three-homer game of Raleigh's career and his first multi-homer effort this season. Raleigh is still stuck on an ugly .167/.282/.336 slash line overall, and his 17 long balls leave him far off the pace of reaching 30 homers for a fourth straight campaign. However, he still has a chance to make an impact down the stretch with Seattle currently three games out of a wild-card spot.
