Diamondbacks' Ryan Thompson: Produces another scoreless outing
Thompson (1-0) retired all three batters faced in a scoreless ninth inning to record the win in Wednesday's 8-5 extra-inning victory over the Orioles.
Thompson induced two groundouts and a flyout en route to his first win of 2026 and has yet to allow a run over 11 appearances (7.2 innings). The submarining right-hander has not allowed a baserunner in his last six outings.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Operates as DH in return
Marte served as the designated hitter and went 1-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's 8-5 win over Baltimore.
Marte, who was scratched from the lineup Tuesday due to tightness in his lower back, returned to action Wednesday but not at second base. He'll get another break from playing the field Thursday, when the Diamondbacks are off.

Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Huge day in extra-inning win
Del Castillo went 2-for-5 with a triple, a home run and five RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 extra-inning win over the Orioles.
Getting the start at catcher and batting cleanup, Del Castillo nearly slugged a homer to left-center field in the third inning, instead settling for his first career triple. The 26-year-old left no doubt in the top of the 10th when he crushed a Tyler Wells fastball 420 feet to right-center for a two-run blast that broke open a 5-5 tie. It was Del Castillo's first long ball of the season, and through his first seven games of 2026 he's batting .346 (9-for-26) with 10 RBI.

Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: Notches first save in 10th inning
Morillo struck out one in a perfect 10th inning Wednesday to record his first save of the season in an 8-5 win over the Orioles.
Paul Sewald had pitched the night before and Kevin Ginkel and Ryan Thompson threw three innings between them to help get Wednesday's afternoon contest to extra innings, so Morillo was the next man up for a save chance when Arizona scored three runs in the top of the 10th. The 27-year-old right-hander breezed through the middle of Baltimore's order on just 10 pitches (seven strikes) to get the job done. Morillo's high-90s fastball and slider-changeup combo seem tailor made for high-leverage work, and he's rising up the pecking order in the Diamondbacks bullpen on the strength of a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB through nine innings.

Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Shaky control in no-decision
Rodriguez didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-5 extra-inning win over the Orioles, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out three.
The veteran southpaw managed to toss just 59 of his 98 pitches for strikes in his worst start so far in 2026, but Rodriguez ducked his first loss of the year when Arizona tied things up in the top of the sixth inning. Rodriguez sports a 1.96 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB through 23 innings, and he's failed to eclipse five punchouts in any of his four starts. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the White Sox.

Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Moving into bench role
Tawa is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
Tawa will take a seat for the second time in three games after he closed out last week with five consecutive starts in left field. While the Diamondbacks could still clear room in the lineup for him when the team faces left-handed pitching, Tawa hasn't helped his case for sticking around in an everyday role, slashing .094/.189/.125 across 38 plate appearances this season.

Diamondbacks' James McCann: Taking seat Wednesday
McCann is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
Even though top backstop Gabriel Moreno (oblique) last played Friday before landing on the injured list, McCann hasn't taken over as the Orioles' primary catcher. Instead, McCann has shared the job with Adrian Del Castillo, who has made three starts to McCann's two over the last five games. Arizona also has Aramis Garcia on hand as a third option behind the plate, which lessens the Diamondbacks' need to lean heavily on any catcher for the duration of Moreno's absence.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Returns to Arizona lineup
Marte (back) will start at designated hitter and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game versus the Orioles.
Lower-back tightness led to Marte being a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup, but he's feeling well enough to be the Diamondbacks' DH for Wednesday's series finale. Ildemaro Vargas will play second base for Arizona.

Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Swipes two bags in win
Perdomo went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Orioles.
All three knocks were singles, but the 26-year-old shortstop quickly got himself into scoring position on two of them. It was Perdomo's first multi-hit performance since Opening Day, and while he's struggling to find his 2025 form at the plate -- he carries a .190/.310/.276 slash line through 18 games with only one home run -- he is at least contributing with his legs, stealing six bags in nine attempts.

Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Locks down sixth save
Sewald struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his sixth save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Orioles.
The veteran reliever needed 11 pitches (seven strikes) to convert his sixth straight save chance to begin the season. Sewald has a 2.45 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 10:0 K:BB through 7.1 innings, and while he's been a little lucky with a .143 BABIP in the early going, his 13.5 percent swinging strike rate is also his best mark since 2023.

Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Collects win in season debut
Kelly (1-0) picked up the win in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over the Orioles, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
The veteran righty got a belated start to the 2026 campaign due to a back issue, and he looked a little rusty in his season debut, tossing only 46 of 86 pitches for strikes and serving up a solo shot to Samuel Basallo. Kelly still did enough to record the win, and he'll get some extra time to rest before his next start as Arizona has team off days scheduled for Thursday and Monday. He lines up to make his next start early next week at home against the White Sox.

Diamondbacks' Luken Baker: Makes first start
Baker started at first base and went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Baltimore.
Baker entered the starting nine after Ketel Marte (back) was scratched. That forced a lineup reshuffle with Ildemaro Vargas moving from first base to cover second and Baker getting his first start since being called up last week. Marte's injury is not considered serious, and Vargas could move back to first base for Wednesday afternoon's series finale.

Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Moves to 2B
Vargas started at second base, batted leadoff and went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Orioles.
Vargas was pressed into duty at second base and the leadoff spot when Ketel Marte (back) was scratched. The utility infielder didn't miss a beat, cracking a three-run home run as part of Arizona's four-run fifth inning. Vargas has hit in all 11 games played thus far, slashing .381/.409/.667 with seven extra-base hits (two home runs) and eight RBI. Marte's injury is not considered serious, and Vargas could move back to first base, where's been a regular fill-in for Pavin Smith (elbow, 60-day IL) and Carlos Santana (thigh).

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Expected back Wednesday
Manager Torey Lovullo said he expects Marte (back) to rejoin the starting lineup Wednesday, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Marte was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup due to lower-back tightness, but Lovullo's comments suggest that the star second baseman isn't dealing with anything too severe. Marte has been heating up as of late, going 9-for-33 (.273) with three homers, seven RBI and six runs scored across his last eight games.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Scratched from lineup
Marte was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles due to lower-back tightness, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
It's unclear how severe Marte's injury is, but the Diamondbacks may provide more details in the near future. In the meantime, Ildemaro Vargas will slide over to second base Tuesday, opening up first for Luken Baker.
